ChamorroProject.com Hafa Adai! Welcome to ChamorroProject.com! The Chamorro Project is a philanthropic effort aimed at preserving and reinvigorating the Chamorro language amongst Guamanians, both locally and abroad. This project was born out of my masters work in the Executive Masters of Science in Information Management program at the University of Washington Information School. An ongoing survey initiated on April 27, 2008 demonstrated the need for developing and disseminating better Chamorro language learning resources to as wide an audience as possible of interested, active citizens. As of May 19, 2008, 175 people have responded to the survey. Here is a sampling of some of those results:
Only by engaging as many people as possible in learning and speaking Chamorro can we hope to stave off the impending rapid extinction of our beautiful and unique heritage. In order to accomplish this goal, quality Chamorro language resources must be developed and made widely accessible. To this end, I implore Guamanians and Chamorro people alike: Share, collaborate, create, participate! If you've been invited to participate in the initial usability phase, please log in here. Dangkulu na si yuus maase! Acknowledgements I'd like to take the opportunity to express my graditude to the many excellent people I am surrounded by who helped make this project possible. Special thanks to UW Ischool Professor Karine Barzilai-Nahon for helping me progress through the trials of my capstone; Lourdes Rivera, Paul Gutierrez, and Woodrow Concepcion for acting in the videos; Lourdes Gutierrez for dialogue consultation, countless phone calls, and strength; my family for support, encouragement, and excellent raw shake recipes; and, last, but not least, the people of Guam for their wonderful insights from the survey and without whom this project would not have mattered. |
